Skiing the Blackcomb Glacier is an amazing experience when weather and snow conditions are good. The Blackcomb Glacier is located on the other side of the ridge to the Northeast of the Glacier Express Chairlift area. You can access it via a boot hike over the ridge starting from the top of the Showcase T-bar at the top of the Glacier Express Chairlift area.

The Blackcomb Glacier is in a large, wide alpine glacier bowl that leads down to Glacier Road (a Blue run that takes you out and back down towards the bottom of the Crystal Ridge Express Chairlift). As you ski out at the bottom of the Blackcomb Glacier, you can look up to the left and see the expert Gemstone Bowls area.

There used to be a well-known ice cave in the lower half of the Blackcomb Glacier, however this was covered up by an avalanche in the 2022/23 ski season. At this time, it is unclear if the ice cave will reappear in the coming seasons.

NOTE: All of Blackcomb Glacier is open alpine, so it can be very challenging if weather, visibility and/or snow conditions are poor. The glacier and the bowls found here are ungroomed/off-piste skiing.  Only attempt this area if you are comfortable with this type of skiing and snow and weather conditions are good.

Skill Level
  • The Blackcomb Glacier area offers amazing open alpine, off-piste Black and Double Black level skiing for strong intermediate and expert skiers.
